Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the Power button, then tap Power Off on the screen to shut down the phone completely.

Heat the rear glass
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer along the back glass edges for about two minutes to soften the perimeter adhesive.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower portion of the rear glass near the bottom edge.

Insert an opening pick
2 minPull up firmly on the suction cup to create a gap, then slide an opening pick into the seam.

Slice the bottom adhesive
2 minSlide the pick along the bottom edge of the glass panel to cut through the glue.

Slice the side adhesive
3 minCarefully guide the opening pick along the left and right edges, inserting it no deeper than 5mm.

Slice the top edge adhesive
2 minMove the pick around the top perimeter to loosen the remaining back cover adhesive.

Open the rear glass
2 minGently hinge open the rear panel toward the right side. Do not pull it away completely yet due to the short flex cable.

Unscrew the fingerprint sensor bracket
2 minUse a precision screwdriver to remove the screw securing the metal bracket over the fingerprint sensor cable.

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor
1 minPry the fingerprint flex cable straight up off its motherboard socket using a plastic spudger.

Unscrew the mid-frame cover
3 minRemove the Torx screws securing the upper motherboard shield and mid-frame section.

Remove the motherboard shield
2 minLift the mid-frame shield away from the chassis to access the motherboard connectors.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to disconnect the battery press connector from the logic board.

Apply isopropyl alcohol
2 minApply a few drops of isopropyl alcohol around the edges of the battery to loosen the tough underlying glue.

Pull the adhesive tabs
4 minGrasp the adhesive pull-tabs with tweezers and slowly stretch them out parallel to the chassis.

Pry out the battery
3 minInsert a plastic prying tool under the battery and lift it out of the phone body carefully.

Clean the battery tray
2 minWipe away remaining adhesive residue inside the frame using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

Install the new battery
3 minApply new adhesive strips to the replacement battery, press it into place, and reconnect the battery cable.
