Step-by-step

Power off the Pixel 2
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is fully shut down before beginning.

Heat the display edges
3 minApply a heat gun or heated iOpener to the perimeter of the screen for two minutes. This softens the internal adhesive holding the display assembly to the frame.

Attach a suction cup
2 minPress a suction cup onto the bottom center of the screen near the lower speaker grill. Pull up firmly to create a small gap between the glass and the aluminum frame.

Insert an opening pick
2 minPush a thin plastic opening pick into the gap created beneath the lower display glass. Take care not to insert the pick more than 3 mm to avoid internal component damage.

Slice perimeter adhesive
4 minSlide the plastic pick along the bottom, sides, and top edges of the phone frame. Work slowly to slice through all remaining display adhesive.

Swing open the display panel
2 minGently lift the top edge of the display and pivot it down towards the bottom edge like a book cover. Do not pull the screen away completely, as it remains tethered by a ribbon cable.

Unscrew the display bracket
2 minUse a T5 Torx screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the metal display cable shield. Store these small screws safely.

Remove the display cable shield
1 minGrasp the metal cable bracket with tweezers and lift it away from the motherboard to expose the display connector.

Disconnect the display ribbon cable
2 minPry the display flex cable straight up from its motherboard socket using the flat end of a plastic spudger. Set the freed display assembly aside.

Unscrew the speaker assembly
2 minRemove the T5 Torx screws securing the speaker housing to the phone frame.

Remove the faulty speaker
2 minInsert a spudger under the lip of the speaker module and gently pry it out of its frame recess. Discard the old speaker.

Press the new speaker into place
2 minAlign the replacement speaker module with the housing cavity, making sure the gold contact pads align properly, and press down firmly.

Reinstall display cable and shield
3 minAlign and press the display ribbon connector back into its socket, then reinstall the metal bracket and tighten the T5 screws.

Apply adhesive and seal screen
5 minClean the frame edge with isopropyl alcohol, apply new pre-cut adhesive strips, and press the display firmly back onto the frame.

Power the Pixel 2 back on and test the speaker repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair.
