Step-by-step

Power Off Phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is fully shut down before proceeding.

Heat Display Edges
2 minApply heat around the outer perimeter of the glass for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach Suction Cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower portion of the screen near the bottom speaker grill.

Create Gap
2 minPull up on the suction cup ring to create a small gap between the glass and metal frame.

Insert Opening Pick
1 minSlide a thin plastic opening pick into the seam created at the bottom edge.

Slice Bottom Adhesive
2 minSlide the pick across the bottom edge to slice through the adhesive seal.

Slice Left Edge
2 minMove the opening pick along the left side of the display to sever the side adhesive.

Slice Right Edge
2 minSlide the pick along the right edge of the screen, keeping the pick shallow to avoid internal components.

Slice Top Edge
2 minCarefully slice through the adhesive at the top, taking care around the proximity sensor and front camera.

Tilt Display Open
1 minLift the top of the display up like a book cover, taking care not to strain the ribbon cable at the bottom.

Unscrew Shield Bracket
2 minUse a T5 Torx screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the display connector shield.

Remove Cable Shield
1 minUse tweezers to lift the metal shield off the motherboard and set it aside safely.

Disconnect Display Cable
1 minPry the display ribbon connector straight up from its socket using the flat end of a spudger.

Remove Old Display
1 minLift the damaged display assembly completely away from the phone body.

Clean Housing Perimeter
4 minScrape off residual adhesive from the aluminum frame using a spudger and high-concentration isopropyl alcohol.

Apply Display Adhesive
3 minPeel and align pre-cut adhesive strips onto the clean perimeter of the phone frame.

Connect New Screen
2 minAlign and press the new display's ribbon cable onto its motherboard socket until it snaps into place.

Reinstall Cable Shield
2 minPlace the metal shield back over the connector and reinstall the two T5 Torx screws.

Adhere New Screen
2 minAlign the display assembly over the frame and press firmly around all edges to seat the adhesive.
After your Google Pixel 2 screen replacement
Power the Pixel 2 back on and test the screen replacement function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair. If something fails after closing the device, reopen carefully and reseat the connectors for this Google Pixel 2 job before assuming the part is defective.
