Step-by-step

Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is completely powered down before proceeding.

Heat the front screen perimeter
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer on low heat to warm the front edges for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach suction cup to screen
1 minPlace the suction cup near the bottom edge of the display glass and press down firmly to create a seal.

Slice screen perimeter adhesive
5 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap, then insert a plastic opening pick under the screen to slice the adhesive around all sides.

Hinge the display open
2 minGently lift the display up from the top edge, swinging it open carefully so you do not strain the fragile display ribbon cable.

Unscrew display connector shield
2 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the screw securing the metal display cable bracket.

Disconnect the display cable
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the display flex cable straight up off its motherboard socket.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minLocate the battery flex cable connector and pry it upward with a spudger to prevent short circuits while working.

Remove upper motherboard screws
3 minUnscrew the Phillips #000 screws holding the upper midframe bracket and power button cover plate.

Disconnect power button flex cable
1 minUse a spudger to gently pop the power and volume button ribbon cable off the motherboard header.

Peel out defective power button cable
2 minUse tweezers to carefully peel the power button flex cable away from the inside of the frame.

Place new power button cable
2 minAlign the replacement power button flex cable over the frame pegs and press the adhesive backing firmly against the body.

Reconnect power button flex cable
1 minPress the power button ribbon connector directly down into its motherboard socket until it clicks into place.

Reconnect the battery cable
1 minSnap the battery connector back into its socket on the motherboard.

Reattach display cable bracket
2 minReconnect the display cable, position the metal shield over the connector, and secure it with the Phillips #000 screw.

Apply display adhesive strips
4 minClean off remaining old adhesive with isopropyl alcohol, then apply new pre-cut adhesive strips around the perimeter of the frame.

Press display into frame
2 minAlign the display glass over the phone body and press firmly around all edges to seal the screen into position.
