Step-by-step

Apply heat to the front glass screen
3 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer to warm the outer edges of the front glass for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach the suction cup to the lower display
2 minPress the suction cup onto the lower third of the front glass and gently pull upward to create a thin gap.

Insert a plastic opening pick under the screen
2 minSlide a thin plastic opening pick into the gap between the glass screen assembly and the phone chassis.

Slice the adhesive along the perimeter
5 minCarefully slide the opening pick around all four edges of the device to cut through the display adhesive.

Open the display from the left edge
2 minGently lift the screen assembly open like a book from the right side toward the left side.

Remove the display bracket screws
2 minUse a T5 Torx screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the metal shield over the screen connector.

Disconnect the display ribbon cable
2 minPry the display cable connector straight up from the motherboard using a plastic spudger and set the screen aside.

Remove the internal frame screws
4 minUnscrew nine T5 Torx screws holding the internal metal midframe shield to the body.

Lift out the internal midframe plate
2 minUse a spudger to pry the midframe plate out of the rear case to expose the lower daughterboard and battery.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up off the motherboard using a spudger to prevent short circuits.

Disconnect the daughterboard ribbon cable
2 minUnplug the lower interconnect cable and antenna cable attached to the bottom daughterboard.

Remove the microphone board screw
2 minUnbolt the single T5 Torx screw securing the microphone daughterboard to the bottom of the enclosure.

Pry out the microphone daughterboard assembly
3 minGently pry underneath the bottom daughterboard to loosen its adhesive and remove the microphone board from the case.

Install the new microphone daughterboard
3 minAlign the new microphone board into the bottom recess and press firmly to seat it in place.

Power the Pixel 2 back on and test the microphone repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair. If something fails after closing the device, reopen carefully and reseat the connectors for this Google Pixel 2 job before assuming the part is defective.
