Step-by-step

Power off the Google Pixel 2
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select 'Power off' on the screen. Ensure the device is completely powered down before beginning.

Heat the front display
3 minApply a heated iOpener or heat gun around the perimeter of the screen for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Slice the display adhesive
5 minApply a suction cup to the glass and insert an opening pick into the seam. Slide the pick around all edges to cut through the adhesive.

Open the display assembly
2 minGently lift the screen from the left edge and swing it open like a book. Take care not to strain the display ribbon cable on the right side.

Unscrew the display cable bracket
2 minRemove the two T3 Torx screws securing the metal shield over the display connector.

Disconnect the display assembly
2 minUse a spudger to remove the metal shield and disconnect the press connector from the logic board. Set the screen aside.

Remove midframe screws
4 minUnscrew the nine T3 Torx screws securing the perimeter midframe array to the phone chassis.

Lift out the midframe shield
2 minInsert a spudger under the midframe edge and carefully lift it clear of the internal frame.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up from the main board using a plastic spudger to cut power.

Disconnect the camera modules
3 minUnplug the front and rear camera flex connectors from the logic board. Lift both cameras out of their recesses with tweezers.

Disconnect ribbon cables and antennas
3 minDetach the charging port flex cable, side button ribbon, and coaxial antenna connectors from the board using a spudger.

Remove logic board screws
2 minUnscrew the remaining T3 Torx board screw and standoff securing the main board to the aluminum chassis.

Remove the logic board
3 minPry gently underneath the edge of the logic board with a plastic opening tool and lift it out of the housing.

Rework or service the board
15 minUse flux, a soldering iron, and desoldering braid under magnification to replace faulty components on the logic board.
