Step-by-step

Power Off and Eject SIM Tray
2 minCompletely power down your Pixel 2 XL. Insert a SIM eject tool into the hole on the left edge to remove the SIM card tray.

Heat Front Display Perimeter
3 minApply a heat gun or warm iOpener around the edges of the front glass screen for 2 to 3 minutes to soften the screen adhesive.

Attach Suction Cup and Create Gap
2 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the screen and pull upward firmly to create a small gap along the seam.

Slice Display Adhesive
5 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the seam and carefully slide it around all four edges to cut through the display adhesive.

Lift Screen and Access Cable
3 minCarefully pivot the top edge of the display open, keeping an eye on the delicate display flex cable connected near the bottom right.

Disconnect Display Cable
3 minUse a spudger to pry off the metal display bracket, then pop the display flex cable straight up from its board connector.

Unscrew Midframe Shield
5 minRemove the perimeter Torx T5 screws holding the midframe graphite/metal shield to the main body.

Remove Midframe Shield
3 minPry gently around the edge of the metal midframe shield and lift it away to expose the battery and logic board.

Disconnect Battery Connector
2 minUse the flat tip of a spudger to disconnect the battery press connector straight up from the logic board to kill power.

Disconnect Camera Flex Cables
3 minPry up the press connectors for both the front-facing camera and the rear-facing camera module.

Disconnect Sub-Board Flex Cables
3 minUnplug the lower ribbon flex cable and disconnect the coax antenna cables attached along the sides of the logic board.

Remove Logic Board Retaining Screws
3 minRemove the remaining Torx T5 screws anchoring the logic board inside the rear housing.

Pry Out Logic Board
3 minInsert a spudger under the top end of the logic board and gently lift it out of the aluminum chassis.

Install Replacement Logic Board
5 minSet the new logic board into place, verify no flex cables are trapped underneath, and secure it using the T5 screws.
