Safety

Step-by-step

Power off the phone
1 minPress and hold the Power button, then tap Shut Down on the screen. Ensure the device is fully turned off before proceeding.

Heat the display perimeter
3 minApply a heated iOpener or heat gun around the edges of the screen for two minutes to soften the strong adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
2 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the display glass and pull up firmly to create a small gap.

Insert an opening pick
2 minSlide a plastic opening pick into the gap created beneath the display glass at the bottom edge.

Slice the bottom adhesive
3 minCarefully slide the opening pick along the bottom edge of the screen to sever the display adhesive.

Slice the side adhesive
4 minContinue sliding the pick along the left and right edges, keeping the pick shallow to avoid damaging internal flex cables.

Slice the top adhesive
3 minSlide the pick across the top edge carefully, avoiding the front-facing camera and speaker mesh.

Pry open the display
2 minGently lift the display assembly from the right edge and swing it open like a book cover.

Unscrew the display bracket
2 minUse a T5 Torx screwdriver to remove the single screw securing the metal display cable bracket.

Remove the display bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift and remove the metal bracket covering the display cable connector.

Disconnect the display cable
2 minPry the display press connector straight up from its motherboard socket using the flat end of a spudger.

Remove the display assembly

Unscrew the midframe
5 minRemove the nine T5 Torx screws securing the aluminum midframe to the phone chassis.

Remove the midframe
2 minLift the metal midframe out of the chassis to expose the internal battery and mainboard.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse a plastic spudger to pry the battery press connector straight up off the motherboard.

Apply adhesive remover
3 minApply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol along the upper and lower edges of the battery.

Pry out the battery
4 minInsert a plastic card or flat opening tool beneath the bottom of the battery and slowly lever it upward.

Remove the old battery
1 minLift the battery out of the frame once the adhesive releases completely.

Clean the frame
3 minWipe away remaining adhesive residue inside the battery well using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

Apply new battery adhesive
2 minAdhere pre-cut battery adhesive strips onto the back of the new battery.

Install the new battery
2 minPlace the replacement battery into the frame cavity and press down firmly for ten seconds.

Reconnect the battery cable
1 minAlign the battery press connector over its motherboard socket and snap it into place.

Reinstall the midframe
4 minPosition the midframe over the body and secure it with the nine T5 Torx screws.

Connect the display cable
2 minAttach the display flex connector back onto the motherboard socket.

2 minReinstall the metal display bracket and tighten its T5 Torx screw.

Seal the screen
4 minApply a new pre-cut adhesive strip around the frame perimeter, then press the display down firmly to seal.
