Overview
Step-by-step
- 1
Heat the Front Display
3 minUse a hot air gun or heat mat set to 80°C on the front glass for 2 minutes to soften the display adhesive.
- 2
Apply Suction Cup
2 minAttach a suction cup near the bottom edge of the display and pull up gently to create a small gap.
- 3
Slice Screen Adhesive
5 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the gap and carefully slide it around the perimeter to cut the adhesive.
- 4
Disconnect Display Cable
2 minPivot the display open from the left side and use a plastic spudger to pry up the screen press connector.
- 5
Remove Midframe Screws
4 minUnscrew the T5 Torx screws securing the midframe panel to the rear housing.
- 6
Disconnect the Battery
2 minPry the midframe up and disconnect the battery cable from the motherboard immediately to prevent short circuits.
- 7
Unplug Board Connectors
3 minDisconnect the rear camera, front camera, and lower board interconnect flex cables from the motherboard using a spudger.
- 8
Remove the Motherboard
3 minRemove the remaining motherboard retaining screws and carefully lift the main board out of the phone body.
- 9
Locate Chip Under Microscope
3 minPlace the motherboard under an inspection microscope and locate the targeted security IC chip.
- 10
Apply Liquid Flux
2 minDispense a small amount of liquid rosin flux around all edges of the security IC.
- 11
Heat the Security Chip
4 minUse a hot air station set to 350°C with medium airflow, moving in small circles over the chip until the solder melts.
- 12
Lift the Chip
2 minGently lift the chip straight up off the motherboard using fine-tip tweezers once the solder liquifies.
- 13
Clean the Board Pads
5 minApply fresh flux and use a soldering iron with desoldering braid to smooth and clean the contact pads on the board.
- 14
Solder Replacement Chip
5 minAlign the replacement chip onto the prepared pads, apply liquid flux, and heat with hot air until it self-aligns into place.
- 15
Inspect Solder Joints
3 minExamine the chip pins under the microscope and clean off flux residue using 99% isopropyl alcohol and a swab.
