Before you begin
Tools
- Heat gun or hair dryer

- Plastic prying tools
- Precision screwdriver set (T5 Torx)

Safety
- Wear eye protection to guard against flying glass fragments from cracked screens.

Step-by-step
- 1
Power off device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then select Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is fully powered down before starting.

Heat front glass edges
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer around the perimeter of the front glass for two minutes. This softens the adhesive holding the display assembly.

Apply suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower portion of the display glass to create a strong seal.

Insert opening pick
2 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap between the glass and frame. Slide a thin plastic opening pick into the gap.

Slice bottom adhesive
2 minSlide the pick horizontally along the bottom seam to cut through the lower adhesive strip.

Slice left side adhesive
2 minGuide the pick around the lower-left corner and move it up the left edge. Keep the pick shallow to avoid damaging internal cables.

Slice right side adhesive
2 minInsert the pick into the right edge and slide it upward along the seam toward the top corner.

Slice top adhesive
2 minCarefully slice through the top edge adhesive, taking extra care near the front camera and earpiece speaker.

Pivot display open
1 minGently tilt the screen up from the top edge like a hood. Do not completely detach the screen yet, as the flex cable is still connected near the top.

Remove display bracket screw
1 minUse a T5 Torx driver to remove the single screw securing the metal display cable cover.

Detach display cable bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift and remove the metal retaining bracket covering the display flex cable connector.

Disconnect display cable
1 minPry the display flex cable straight up from its motherboard socket using the flat end of a spudger.

Remove old display
1 minLift the damaged screen assembly away from the phone frame and set it aside.

Transfer earpiece mesh
3 minUse tweezers to carefully detach the small earpiece mesh grille from the old display and transfer it to the new screen.

Clean frame adhesive
4 minScrape away remaining adhesive from the frame using a spudger and isopropyl alcohol. Ensure the recessed channel is clean and flat.

Apply new screen adhesive
3 minApply double-sided adhesive strips along the perimeter of the phone frame and press them down firmly.

Connect new display cable
2 minHold the new screen close to the frame and press the flex cable connector onto the motherboard until it snaps into place.

Secure display cable bracket
2 minPlace the metal bracket over the display flex cable and reinstall the single T5 Torx screw.

Seal display assembly
2 minPeel off the protective adhesive backing, align the top edge of the display, and press the screen firmly into the frame.

Power the Pixel 1 back on and test the screen replacement function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair.
