Before you begin
Tools

Safety
- Wear eye protection when prying screen glass to prevent injury from potential shards.
- Do not heat the screen past 80°C (176°F) to avoid damaging the AMOLED panel.
- Use non-conductive plastic tools near the motherboard to avoid short circuits.

Step-by-step

Power off the Pixel
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen to completely shut down the device.

Heat the display edges
3 minApply heat around the front glass perimeter using a heat gun for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower portion of the screen just above the chin area.

Slice display adhesive
5 minLift the suction cup to create a small gap, then slide an opening pick around the edges to cut through adhesive.

Pivot display open
2 minCarefully swing the display open from the left side like a book cover, taking care not to stretch the ribbon cable on the right.

Unscrew display bracket
2 minUse a T5 Torx screwdriver to remove the single screw holding the display connector metal shield.

Disconnect screen cable
2 minPry the display flex cable connector straight up from its motherboard socket using a plastic spudger.

Remove midframe screws
4 minUnscrew nine T5 Torx screws securing the internal midframe to the rear housing assembly.

Pry out midframe
3 minInsert a spudger under the midframe edge to release perimeter clips, then lift the midframe away from the body.

Disconnect power flex connector
2 minPop the power and volume button flex cable connector off the motherboard using the flat end of a spudger.

Unscrew power button bracket
2 minRemove the T5 Torx screw securing the metal holding bracket over the power and volume switch assembly.

Peel power flex cable
2 minGently lift the power button flex cable off the inner wall of the housing using fine tweezers.

Position new flex cable
3 minAlign the replacement power button flex cable into the side housing channel and press it down firmly.

Reinstall metal bracket
2 minSet the metal retention bracket back over the power switch and secure it with its T5 Torx screw.

Attach power flex cable
2 minAlign the flex connector over the motherboard socket and press straight down until it clicks into place.
After your Google Pixel 1 power button repair
Power the Pixel 1 back on and test the power button repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair.
