Step-by-step
- 1
Power Off the Device
1 minPress and hold the power button, then tap Power Off on the screen. Ensure the device is completely powered down before continuing.

Heat the Display Edges
2 minApply heat to the outer edges of the screen with a heat gun for 2 minutes to soften the display adhesive. Keep the heat source moving to avoid burning the screen.

Attach Suction Cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower third of the display glass. Press down firmly to secure the suction seal.

Insert Opening Pick
2 minPull up on the suction cup to create a thin gap along the bottom edge, then insert an opening pick beneath the glass.

Slice Display Adhesive
4 minSlide the pick carefully around the left, top, and bottom edges to slice through the adhesive. Insert the pick no deeper than 3mm to prevent cable damage.

Open the Display Assembly
2 minGently swing the screen open from the left edge like a book page. Support the panel so it does not strain the connected ribbon cables.

Unscrew Display Bracket
2 minRemove the single T5 Torx screw securing the metal display cable bracket. Lift the bracket away with tweezers.

Disconnect Display Cable
2 minPry the display cable connector straight up off the logic board using a spudger. Set the display assembly aside.

Unscrew Midframe Assembly
4 minRemove the nine T5 Torx screws holding the black midframe panel to the main enclosure.

Remove the Midframe
2 minInsert a spudger near the top edge of the midframe and lift it out of the phone frame.

Disconnect the Battery
1 minPry the battery connector up from the motherboard using the flat tip of a spudger to safely cut power.

Disconnect Daughterboard Cables
3 minUse tweezers to unclip the coaxial antenna cable and disconnect the main interconnect flex cable from the bottom daughterboard.

Unscrew Microphone Daughterboard
2 minRemove the two T5 Torx screws securing the daughterboard and primary microphone array to the base of the frame.

Extract the Microphone Board
2 minPry under the edge of the daughterboard with a spudger to free it from the remaining adhesive and lift it out.

Install New Microphone Board
2 minAlign the new microphone daughterboard into the bottom frame recess and press down firmly to set it in place.
After your Google Pixel 1 microphone repair
Power the Pixel 1 back on and test the microphone repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair. If something fails after closing the device, reopen carefully and reseat the connectors for this Google Pixel 1 job before assuming the part is defective.
