Step-by-step

Heat the front glass edges
2 minApply a heated iOpener or heat gun around the screen perimeters for two minutes to soften the adhesive beneath the glass.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPlace a heavy-duty suction cup near the bottom edge of the display assembly.

Insert an opening pick
2 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap, then slide a thin plastic opening pick under the display glass.

Slice the display adhesive
3 minGently slide the pick along the bottom and side edges of the glass to slice through the adhesive layer.

Swing open the screen
2 minCarefully pivot the display glass up from the right edge like opening a book cover. Do not pull it away completely yet.

Unfasten the display bracket screw
2 minUse a T5 Torx screwdriver to remove the single screw securing the display cable bracket.

Remove the display connector bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift and remove the small metal shield covering the display ribbon cable.

Disconnect the display cable
1 minPry the display flex cable straight up from its motherboard socket using a plastic spudger.

Unscrew the midframe fasteners
3 minRemove the nine T5 Torx screws securing the aluminum midframe to the phone chassis.

Remove the midframe assembly
2 minGently lift the midframe away from the lower enclosure to reveal the internal components.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pop the battery connector off its motherboard terminal.

Apply adhesive remover
3 minApply a few drops of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol under the edges of the battery to loosen the glue.

Pry out the old battery
3 minInsert a flat plastic opening tool beneath the battery and slowly lever it up out of the recess.

Clean residual adhesive
2 minWipe away remaining adhesive strips from the metal housing using a lint-free cloth soaked in isopropyl alcohol.

Apply new battery adhesive
2 minLay fresh battery adhesive strips flat into the battery well and peel off the protective backing film.

Install the replacement battery
2 minAlign the new battery in the well and press down firmly to secure it to the adhesive.

Reconnect the battery cable
1 minAlign the battery press connector with the motherboard port and snap it into place.

Reinstall the midframe
3 minSet the midframe back into position and secure it with the nine T5 Torx screws.

Reconnect the display cable
1 minPress the display ribbon cable firmly onto its connector until you feel it click into place.

Secure the display bracket
2 minPosition the metal connector shield over the display cable and tighten its single T5 screw.

Seal the display assembly
3 minApply new display adhesive strips along the frame perimeter, lower the screen into alignment, and press gently to seal.
