Step-by-step

Power Off Phone
1 minPress and hold the Side button and Volume Down button, then slide to power off the device completely.

Remove Pentalobe Screws
2 minUnscrew the two 6.9 mm Pentalobe P2 screws located on either side of the Lightning connector.

Heat Bottom Edge
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer on low setting to warm the bottom edge of the iPhone for 2 minutes to soften display adhesive.

Attach Suction Cup
1 minApply a suction cup to the lower half of the front glass, just above the home button area.

Separate Lower Display Edge
2 minPull up on the suction cup with firm pressure to create a small gap between the display panel and the frame.

Insert Plastic Opening Pick
1 minInsert an opening pick into the gap at the bottom edge of the phone.

Slice Left Edge Adhesive
2 minSlide the pick up the left edge of the phone to cut through the water-resistant seal.

Slice Right Edge Adhesive
2 minSlide the pick up the right edge to slice the remaining perimeter adhesive.

Open Display Assembly
2 minSwing the display open from the left side, like the cover of a book, resting it against a secure object.

Unscrew Lower Connector Shield
3 minRemove the three Y000 screws securing the lower display and battery connector bracket.

Remove Connector Shield
1 minUse tweezers to lift out the metal logic board shield.

Disconnect Battery Connector
2 minUse the edge of a spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket.

Disconnect Display Cable
1 minPry the display panel cable connector straight up from the logic board.

Disconnect Digitizer Cable
1 minDisconnect the digitizer flex cable directly next to the display connector.

Unscrew Upper Display Shield
2 minRemove the two Y000 screws holding the sensor assembly bracket at the top of the logic board.

Disconnect Front Sensor Assembly
2 minDisconnect the front sensor flex cable connector and lift the display assembly away.

Unscrew Taptic Engine Bracket
3 minRemove the Phillips screws securing the Taptic Engine and speaker assembly brackets at the bottom.

Remove Speaker Assembly
2 minLift and remove the lower speaker module from the chassis.

Remove Taptic Engine
2 minDisconnect and lift out the Taptic Engine vibration motor from the lower housing.

Unscrew Lightning Port Connectors
4 minRemove the remaining Phillips and Y000 screws holding the Lightning port assembly to the frame.

Unseat Microphones
3 minGently pry the lower microphones away from their recessed slots on the frame edge.

Remove Lightning Port Assembly
3 minPeel the ribbon cable off the lower rear case and lift out the Lightning assembly.

Install New Lightning Cable
4 minAlign the new Lightning port assembly into position and adhere the flex cable flat against the frame.

Reinstall Taptic Engine and Speaker
4 minPlace the Taptic Engine and speaker module back into the frame and tighten their securing screws.

Reconnect Display Cables
3 minAttach the front sensor, digitizer, and display connectors back onto the logic board.

Reconnect Battery and Attach Shields
4 minSnap the battery connector back on, replace all metal brackets, and secure them with their respective screws.

Close Display and Secure Base
3 minAlign the top edge of the screen, press the display flush into the frame, and reinsert the two Pentalobe screws.
