Step-by-step
- 1
Power Off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and either volume button until the power slider appears. Slide to completely turn off the device.

Remove Pentalobe Screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe driver to remove the two 3.5 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning connector.

Heat Lower Edge
2 minWarm the bottom edge of the phone using a heat gun or hairdryer for two minutes to soften the display adhesive seal.

Apply Suction Cup
2 minAttach a suction cup near the bottom left corner of the screen. Pull upward with steady pressure to create a small gap along the lower edge.

Slice Display Adhesive
4 minInsert an opening pick into the gap and slice through the adhesive along the bottom, left, and right edges of the display.

Open the Display
2 minSwing the screen open to the right side like a book. Support it against a heavy object so you do not stress the delicate display cables.

Unscrew Battery Bracket
2 minRemove the three Y000 tri-point screws securing the lower logic board shield.

Remove Display Shield
1 minUse tweezers to lift and remove the metal shield covering the display and battery flex cables.

Disconnect Battery
1 minPry the battery connector straight up from its motherboard socket using a plastic spudger to cut power to the device.

Unscrew Taptic Engine Bracket
2 minRemove the two Y000 tri-point screws securing the metal grounding bracket over the Taptic Engine.

Remove Grounding Bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift and remove the small metal grounding bracket from the phone frame.

Disconnect Taptic Engine Cable
1 minUse a spudger to gently pop the Taptic Engine ribbon cable connector off its motherboard socket.

Unscrew Taptic Engine Screws
2 minRemove the two Phillips #000 screws securing the Taptic Engine body to the rear housing.

Remove the Taptic Engine
1 minLift the Taptic Engine directly out of the lower chassis with tweezers or your fingers.
