Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the side button and either volume button until the slider appears, then slide to power off.

Remove pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.5 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

Heat bottom edge
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer to the bottom edge of the phone for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the display, just above the Lightning port, and press firmly.

Separate lower screen edge
3 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap and insert a plastic opening pick into the seam.

Slice perimeter adhesive
4 minSlide the pick around the left and right edges to break the adhesive, avoiding the top edge clips.

Open display assembly
2 minSwing the display open from the left edge like a book, leaning it against a stable object to support it.

Remove battery bracket screws
3 minUnscrew the three Y000 screws holding the battery bracket to the logic board and lift the bracket out.

Disconnect battery cable
1 minUse the pointed end of a spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket.

Remove display bracket screws
3 minUnscrew the five Y000 screws securing the display board bracket and remove the bracket with tweezers.

Disconnect display flex cables
2 minDisconnect the digitizer cable and display cable connectors from the logic board using a spudger.

Detach front sensor flex
2 minPry up the front panel sensor assembly connector from its socket on the logic board.

Remove display assembly
1 minLift the display assembly away from the enclosure and set it aside in a safe location.

Unscrew lower speaker module
4 minRemove the Phillips and standoff screws securing the lower speaker assembly to the bottom of the case.

Remove speaker module
2 minLift the speaker assembly out of the case using a spudger and pair of tweezers.

Unscrew Taptic Engine
2 minRemove the three screws securing the Taptic Engine to the chassis.

Remove Taptic Engine
1 minLift the Taptic Engine straight out of the phone body.

Disconnect Lightning assembly cables
3 minDisconnect the charging port flex cable and cellular antenna connectors from the logic board.

Remove charging port screws
5 minUnscrew all Phillips and standoff screws securing the Lightning port housing and microphones to the frame.

Peel assembly from frame
4 minGently insert a plastic opening pick under the flex cable to separate the adhesive securing the port to the chassis.

Install new charging port assembly
6 minAlign the new Lightning port assembly in the chassis, press down the flex cable adhesive, and tighten all securing screws.
