Safety

- Do not bend, puncture, or pry against the lithium-ion battery.
- Wear safety glasses while working with heated glass and tiny metal springs.

Step-by-step

Power Off the iPhone X
1 minPress and hold the Side button and either Volume button until the slider appears. Drag the slider to power down the device completely.

Remove Bottom Pentalobe Screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.9 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

Warm Lower Edge Adhesive
2 minApply mild heat from a heat gun or hair dryer to the bottom edge of the iPhone for 1 to 2 minutes to soften the display seal adhesive.

Apply Suction Cup
1 minAttach a suction cup to the lower third of the front screen, just above the Lightning port.

Slice Perimeter Adhesive
4 minPull up gently on the suction cup to create a small gap, then insert an opening pick and slice along the lower and side edges to free the display adhesive.

Open Display Assembly
2 minSwing the screen open to the right side like a book cover. Rest it against a stable object so it does not strain the ribbon cables.

Remove Board Bracket Screws
3 minUse a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the five screws securing the lower logic board display bracket.

Remove Display Bracket
1 minGrasp the metal bracket with tweezers and lift it off the logic board.

Disconnect Battery Connector
2 minUse the pointed end of a spudger to gently pry the battery press connector straight up from its logic board socket.

Disconnect Display Cables
3 minPry up the OLED display connector, digitizer connector, and front sensor assembly connector using a spudger.

Separate Display Assembly
1 minLift the entire display assembly off the rear enclosure and set it aside in a safe location.

Unscrew Upper Bracket and Camera
4 minUnscrew the bracket holding the upper flex assembly and rear camera using a Phillips screwdriver, then set the metal bracket aside.

Unscrew Volume Button Brackets
3 minRemove the Phillips screws holding the metal volume button brackets directly inside the left frame edge.

Remove Volume Button Cable
3 minPry the original volume button flex cable and switch mechanisms gently out of the housing frame using tweezers.

Install New Volume Button Assembly
4 minSeat the replacement volume button switches firmly into the housing cutouts and re-secure the metal retention brackets with screws.

Test Volume Button Functionality
4 minTemporarily reconnect the display and battery cables to power on the phone and test tactile feedback and screen volume response.
