Safety
- Wear eye protection to prevent injury from glass splinters if the screen is shattered.
- Disconnect the battery connector immediately after opening the display to avoid electrical shorts.
- Do not puncture, bend, or apply pressure to the battery.

Step-by-step

Power Down iPhone
1 minTurn off your iPhone X completely before starting the repair.

Remove Pentalobe Screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.9 mm screws next to the Lightning port.

Heat Bottom Edge
2 minApply a heat gun or hairdryer to the lower edge of the phone for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach Suction Cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower half of the front glass, just above the bottom bezel.

Create Initial Gap
2 minPull up firmly on the suction cup while inserting a plastic opening pick under the bottom edge.

Slice Left Adhesive
2 minSlide the opening pick along the left edge of the phone to cut through the internal adhesive seal.

Slice Right Adhesive
2 minInsert the pick under the right edge and slide upwards to break the remaining side adhesive.

Open Display Assembly
1 minCarefully swing the display open from the left edge like a book cover. Do not pull it away completely yet.

Unscrew Display Bracket Screws
2 minUse a Tri-point Y000 driver to remove the five screws securing the lower display connector bracket.

Remove Display Bracket
1 minLift and remove the metal lower display bracket using precision tweezers.

Disconnect Battery Cable
1 minUse the flat end of a plastic spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket.

Disconnect OLED Cable
1 minPry the OLED display cable connector straight up off the logic board using your spudger.

Disconnect Touch Cable
1 minPry the touch digitizer cable connector straight up from its motherboard socket.

Unscrew Upper Sensor Bracket
2 minRemove the three Tri-point Y000 screws holding the upper sensor assembly bracket in place.

Remove Upper Sensor Bracket
1 minUse tweezers to carefully remove and set aside the upper metal bracket.

Disconnect Front Sensor Cable
1 minPry the front panel sensor assembly cable connector straight up from the board.

Separate Display Assembly
1 minLift the old display assembly completely away from the iPhone chassis.

Unscrew Earpiece Assembly
2 minOn the back of the old display, remove the four screws securing the earpiece speaker and sensor assembly.

Flip Earpiece Speaker
1 minGently flip the earpiece speaker downward to expose the microphone and proximity sensor underneath.

Unstick Sensor Flex Cable
2 minUse a spudger to carefully pry the proximity sensor and ambient light sensor from their display housings.

Transfer Sensor Assembly
2 minTransfer the entire earpiece speaker and sensor flex cable onto the new display assembly.

Secure Earpiece Speaker
2 minFold the speaker back into position and secure it with its original screws.

Apply Display Adhesive
3 minClean the perimeter frame and lay down new pre-cut waterproof adhesive strips onto the iPhone body.

Connect Display Connectors
2 minAttach the sensor cable, OLED cable, and digitizer cable to their logic board sockets.

Reconnect Battery
1 minPress the battery connector firmly down onto its socket until it snaps into place.

Reinstall Metal Brackets
3 minPosition both metal display brackets and secure them using their corresponding screws.

Seat Display Assembly
2 minAlign the top edge of the display with the frame and gently press the edges into place.

Reinstall Pentalobe Screws
1 minInsert and tighten the two P2 Pentalobe screws beside the Lightning port to complete the repair.

Power the iPhone X back on and test the screen replacement function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair.
