Overview
Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the device
1 minTurn off your iPhone X completely before beginning disassembly. Press and hold the side button and either volume button, then slide to power off.

Remove pentalobe screws
2 minUnscrew the two 6.9 mm P2 Pentalobe screws located at the bottom edge on either side of the Lightning port.

Heat the lower display edge
2 minApply heat to the lower edge of the phone using a heat gun or hair dryer for 90 seconds to soften the screen adhesive.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup onto the lower half of the front glass, just above the bottom bezel.

Slice display adhesive
4 minPull up firmly on the suction cup to create a gap, insert an opening pick, and slide it along the bottom and sides to cut through the adhesive seal.

Open display assembly
2 minSwing the display open from the right side like a book. Do not try to fully separate it yet, as fragile flex cables are still connected.

Disconnect the battery
3 minRemove the five Y000 tri-point screws holding the lower bracket, then use a spudger to pry the battery connector directly off the logic board.

Disconnect screen flex cables
3 minUse your spudger to disconnect the OLED panel cable, digitizer cable, and front sensor assembly cable from the board.

Remove display assembly
1 minLift the entire display assembly off the chassis and place it in a safe area.

Eject SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or straightened paperclip into the SIM tray hole and push to eject the tray.

Disconnect upper board connectors
4 minRemove the bracket covering the top logic board connectors and disconnect the rear camera and sensor flex cables using a spudger.

Unscrew logic board brackets
4 minRemove the standoff screws and remaining Y000 tri-point screws securing the logic board to the rear case.

Remove the logic board
3 minCarefully pivot the logic board up from the bottom edge and remove it from the rear enclosure.

Unscrew power button bracket
3 minRemove the Phillips screws holding the metal power button retention bracket against the upper right sidewall.

Remove old power button cable
3 minUse tweezers to lift the metal power actuator bracket out and gently peel the power button flex cable off the inner frame.

Install new power button flex
4 minAlign the new power button flex assembly into the chassis, press down adhesive sections, and reinstall the metal bracket and screws.
After your Apple iPhone X power button repair
Power the iPhone X back on and test the power button repair function before you put every screw away. Check touch/display response, charging, cameras, buttons, and wireless as relevant to this repair. If something fails after closing the device, reopen carefully and reseat the connectors for this Apple iPhone X job before assuming the part is defective.
