Step-by-step

Power Off iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button, then slide to power off the device completely.

Remove Pentalobe Screws
2 minUnscrew and remove the two 3.5 mm P2 Pentalobe screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

Warm the Lower Edge
2 minUse a heat gun or hair dryer on low setting to warm the bottom edge of the phone for 90 seconds to soften the adhesive.

Attach Suction Cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower half of the front glass panel, just above the Home button.

Slice Screen Adhesive
4 minPull up gently on the suction cup to create a gap, then slide a plastic opening pick around the bottom and sides to slice through the adhesive.

Open Display Assembly
2 minSwing the display open from the left side like the cover of a book, propping it upright against a stable object.

Unscrew Battery Bracket
3 minRemove the four Tri-point Y000 screws securing the lower display and battery connector bracket.

Disconnect Battery Cable
1 minUse the pointed end of a spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket on the logic board.

Disconnect Display Connectors
3 minUse your spudger to pry up the display cable connector and the Home button cable connector from the logic board.

Separate Display Assembly
1 minLift the display assembly off the rear case and set it aside in a safe, dust-free location.

Unscrew Taptic Engine
3 minRemove the three Phillips #00 screws holding the Taptic Engine to the bottom of the phone frame.

Disconnect Taptic Connector
2 minPry the Taptic Engine ribbon cable connector straight up off its socket on the logic board.

Remove Taptic Engine
1 minUse tweezers to carefully lift the old Taptic Engine out of the rear case.

Install New Taptic Engine
2 minLower the replacement Taptic Engine into position and reconnect its ribbon cable press-fit connector.

Secure Taptic Engine Screws
3 minReinstall the three Phillips #00 screws to hold the Taptic Engine firmly in place.
