Step-by-step

Power Off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button until the slider appears. Slide to power off the device completely.

Remove the Pentalobe Screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.5 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

Attach the Suction Cup
1 minPlace a suction cup onto the lower half of the front display glass, positioned just above the Home button.

Pry Open the Bottom Edge
3 minPull up gently on the suction cup to create a small gap at the bottom edge, then insert an opening pick into the seam.

Slice the Display Adhesive
3 minSlide the opening pick around the bottom and side edges of the frame to cut through the perimeter adhesive seal.

Open the Display Assembly
2 minSwing the display open from the left edge like a book cover. Prop it up against a steady object so you do not strain the fragile display cables.

Remove the Battery Connector Bracket
3 minUse a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the metal lower connector cover.

Disconnect the Battery
2 minUse the flat edge of a spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket on the logic board.

Remove the Taptic Engine Bracket Screws
2 minUnscrew the two Tri-point Y000 screws holding the small protective metal bracket over the lower component connectors.

Disconnect the Taptic Engine Flex Cable
2 minPry the Taptic Engine press connector straight up from its socket using a plastic spudger.

Unscrew the Taptic Engine
3 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the three mounting screws securing the Taptic Engine to the rear case.

Lift Out the Old Taptic Engine
1 minUse tweezers to carefully lift the Taptic Engine up and out of the iPhone enclosure.

Install the New Taptic Engine
3 minLower the replacement Taptic Engine into position and thread in the three Phillips mounting screws until snug.

Reconnect Cable and Reassemble Display
5 minPress the Taptic Engine connector into place, reconnect the battery, reinstall metal brackets, apply new display adhesive, and screw in the two bottom Pentalobe screws.
