Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the power button until the slide-to-power-off prompt appears, then slide to turn the device completely off.

Remove lower pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.9 mm screws located on both sides of the Lightning charging port.

Attach suction cup to display
1 minPlace a suction cup onto the glass just above the home button and press firmly to seal it.

Pry open the front assembly
3 minPull up gently on the suction cup while inserting a plastic opening pick between the display and the rear case to release the clips.

Remove Touch ID bracket
2 minUse precision tweezers to pop off the small metal bracket covering the Touch ID cable connector near the bottom.

Disconnect the Touch ID cable
1 minUse the pointed end of a spudger to detach the Touch ID flex cable connector from its socket.

Remove battery bracket screws
2 minRemove the two Phillips #00 screws securing the battery cable bracket to the logic board.

Disconnect the battery
1 minPry the battery connector straight up out of its socket using a spudger to prevent short circuits.

Remove display cable bracket
2 minRemove the four Phillips #00 screws holding the upper display cable shield bracket in place, then remove the bracket.

Disconnect display flex cables
2 minDisconnect the front camera, digitizer, and LCD cables from the logic board and lift the front display off the phone.

Remove loudspeaker screws
2 minRemove the three Phillips #00 screws securing the lower loudspeaker module to the bottom frame.

Remove the loudspeaker assembly
2 minGently lift the loudspeaker assembly out of the bottom of the phone case.

Disconnect microphone flex cable
1 minUse a spudger to disconnect the main lower flex cable connector—which includes the primary microphone—from the logic board.

Unscrew lower microphone assembly
3 minRemove the Phillips #00 screws securing the microphone bracket and Lightning port to the bottom of the enclosure.

Peel out old microphone assembly
3 minInsert a spudger beneath the flex cable adhesive and carefully pry up the primary microphone and port assembly.

Install new microphone flex assembly
4 minPosition the replacement microphone assembly into the lower chassis, press down firmly on the adhesive, and re-insert all mounting screws.
