Safety
- Discharge the phone battery below 25% before starting to prevent thermal runaway if punctured.
- Do not open the screen past a 0.5-inch gap initially, or you will tear the delicate Touch ID flex cable.
- Wear an anti-static wrist strap to prevent electrostatic discharge damage to internal components.

Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the top power button, then slide the power switch across the screen to turn off the iPhone completely.

Remove pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.9 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning charging port.

Attach suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup onto the lower half of the screen assembly, positioned just above the Home Button.

Slightly lift bottom screen edge
3 minPull up firmly on the suction cup while using a plastic prying tool to separate the bottom edge of the glass display from the phone frame.

Detach Touch ID cable bracket
3 minGently lift the display no more than half an inch, then use tweezers to slide off the small metal bracket covering the Home Button connector.

Disconnect Touch ID flex cable
2 minUse the pointed tip of a spudger to carefully pop the Home Button flex cable connector out of its socket.

Open display to ninety degrees
1 minHinge the display open from the top edge and prop it against a small box or object at a 90-degree angle.

Unscrew display cable bracket
3 minRemove the four Phillips #000 screws securing the metal display cable bracket to the logic board.

Remove display cable shield
1 minLift the metal display cable shield out of the phone using your tweezers.

Disconnect front panel cables
3 minUse the flat end of a spudger to disconnect the front camera, digitizer, and LCD cables from their logic board sockets.

Separate display from body
1 minLift the entire display panel completely away from the rear enclosure and place it on a clean workspace.

Unscrew Home Button bracket
2 minRemove the two Phillips #000 screws securing the metal Home Button bracket to the rear of the front glass.

Remove Home Button bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift the metal bracket off the back of the Home Button assembly.

Softened Home Button adhesive
2 minApply mild heat from a heat gun or hair dryer to the front lower glass for 15 seconds to soften the Home Button adhesive.

Pry up flex ribbon cable
2 minSlide the flat edge of a spudger underneath the delicate Home Button flex ribbon to separate it from the display panel.

Push out old Home Button
1 minGently push the Home Button rubber gasket from the front side of the glass inward until it detaches.
