Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minHold down the top power button and slide to power off the device completely. Make sure the phone is disconnected from any cables before proceeding.

Remove bottom pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.9 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning connector.

Attach suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup onto the lower portion of the screen, placing it just above the Home button. Ensure a firm seal against the glass.

Pry open lower edge
3 minPull up firmly on the suction cup while inserting a plastic opening pick into the gap between the display bezel and metal case.

Release bottom display clips
2 minSlide the opening pick around the lower left and right corners to unclip the front panel from the rear case.

Slightly raise display
2 minGently lift the bottom edge of the display no more than one inch. Do not open completely yet, as the delicate Touch ID cable remains connected.

Remove Touch ID bracket
2 minUse precision tweezers to unclip and remove the small metal retaining bracket resting over the Touch ID cable connector.

Disconnect Touch ID cable
2 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the Touch ID flex cable connector straight up off its socket on the logic board.

Open display panel to 90 degrees
2 minSwing the lower edge of the display upward until it sits at a right angle to the rear case. Prop the display panel against a stable object.

Remove battery connector bracket screws
2 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the metal battery connector bracket to the logic board.

Disconnect battery cable
2 minRemove the metal battery bracket with tweezers, then pry the battery connector up from the logic board using a spudger.

Remove display bracket screws
2 minRemove the four Phillips #000 screws securing the upper display cable bracket to the top-right section of the logic board.

Remove display cable bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift the metal display cable bracket out of the device and place it aside.

Disconnect display flex cables
3 minUse a spudger to disconnect the front camera/sensor cable, digitizer cable, and LCD display cable from the logic board.

Separate display assembly
1 minLift the display assembly away from the rear enclosure and place it in a clean, safe area.

Unpeel adhesive pull tabs
2 minLocate the two white battery adhesive pull tabs along the bottom edge of the battery and peel them back from the cell.

Extract battery adhesive strips
4 minSlowly pull one adhesive strip flat and parallel to the chassis until it fully releases. Repeat the process for the second adhesive strip.

Remove original battery
2 minLift the old battery out of the rear enclosure. If it remains stuck, apply a few drops of isopropyl alcohol underneath to loosen residual glue.

Clean battery compartment
2 minWipe the battery tray using isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth to remove leftover adhesive and grime.

Install new battery
3 minApply new adhesive strips to the replacement battery, lower it into the rear case, and press down firmly to secure it.
