Step-by-step

Power off device
1 minPress and hold the side button, then slide the slider to turn off your iPhone completely.

Remove Pentalobe screws
2 minUnscrew the two 3.5 mm Pentalobe screws located at the bottom edge near the Lightning port.

Attach suction cup
1 minApply a suction cup to the lower half of the front panel, placing it just above the Home button.

Pry lower display edge
3 minPull up on the suction cup while inserting an opening pick into the gap between the display and frame.

Slice left edge adhesive
3 minSlide the opening pick along the bottom-left corner and up the left edge to cut the water resistance seal.

Slice right edge adhesive
3 minInsert the pick on the right side and slide it up toward the top to release the remaining adhesive.

Open display assembly
1 minSwing the display open from the left edge like a book, taking care not to strain the upper ribbon cables.

Unscrew lower display bracket
2 minRemove the four Tri-point Y000 screws holding the lower display bracket to the logic board.

Remove lower display bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift the metal lower display cable bracket out of the chassis.

Disconnect battery cable
1 minUse a spudger to gently pry the battery connector straight up from its socket on the logic board.

Disconnect lower display cables
2 minPry the two lower display cables straight up from their motherboard sockets using a plastic spudger.

Unscrew upper display bracket
2 minRemove the three Tri-point Y000 screws securing the upper bracket over the sensor connector.

Remove upper display bracket
1 minLift the metal bracket away from the upper logic board using tweezers.

Disconnect front sensor assembly
2 minDisconnect the front panel sensor assembly connector from its socket on the logic board.

Separate display assembly
1 minRemove the front display assembly completely from the rear housing and set it aside.

Unpeel battery adhesive tabs
2 minPeel back the black adhesive pull-tabs located at the bottom edge of the battery using tweezers.

Pull first adhesive strip
4 minSlowly pull the first adhesive tab toward the bottom of the phone at a flat, low angle until it releases.

Pull second adhesive strip
4 minPull the remaining adhesive strip outward with steady tension until it slides out from under the battery.

Remove old battery
2 minLift the battery out of the rear case using a plastic spudger if any slight residue remains.
