Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minTurn off your iPhone 8 Plus completely by holding the side button and sliding to power off.

Remove pentalobe screws
2 minUnscrew the two 3.5 mm P2 Pentalobe screws located on the bottom edge near the Lightning connector.

Heat the lower display edge
2 minApply a heated iOpener or hairdryer to the lower edge of the screen for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower left corner of the glass screen, just above the home button.

Slice perimeter adhesive
3 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap, then insert an opening pick and slide along the bottom and left edges.

Open display like a book
2 minSwing the screen open from the left side toward the right side, taking care not to strain display cables.

Disconnect the battery cable
3 minRemove the four Y000 screws securing the lower display bracket, lift the bracket out, and disconnect the battery press connector.

Disconnect display ribbon cables
2 minPry up the lower display cable and digitizer cable connectors using the flat end of a spudger.

Remove front panel assembly
3 minUnscrew the upper bracket screws, disconnect the front panel sensor assembly, and lift the screen away.

Unscrew Taptic Engine fasteners
3 minRemove the two Phillips #000 screws and one Standoff screw securing the Taptic Engine near the bottom.

Disconnect Taptic Engine cable
2 minUse a spudger to gently disconnect the Taptic Engine ribbon cable connector from the logic board.

Lift out Taptic Engine
1 minUse tweezers or your fingers to lift the original Taptic Engine out of the rear enclosure.

Position replacement Taptic Engine
2 minLower the new Taptic Engine into the chassis and align it with the screw mounting holes.

Secure Taptic Engine screws
3 minReconnect the ribbon cable, then reinstall the two Phillips #000 screws and one Standoff screw.

Reconnect display and battery
4 minAttach the sensor, display, and battery connectors, then secure their metal retention brackets with screws.

Seal and screw display closed
3 minAlign the top edge of the display, press down firmly along the sides, and reinstall the two P2 Pentalobe bottom screws.
