   Power down the iPhone

   Press and hold the side button and volume down button, then slide to power off. Ensure the device is completely powered down before starting.

   Remove the Pentalobe screws

   Use a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.5 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning port. Store them safely in a tray.

   Heat the lower display edge

   Apply a heated iOpener or hairdryer to the bottom edge of the phone for two minutes. This softens the waterproof display adhesive.

   Attach a suction cup

   Place a suction cup on the lower half of the glass, just above the Home button. Press firmly to secure a suction seal.

   Separate the glass slightly

   Pull up on the suction cup to create a tiny gap between the front glass and the rear case frame. Insert an opening pick into the gap.

   Slice the lower adhesive

   Slide the opening pick along the bottom edge and up the left side of the phone to slice through the adhesive. Stop before reaching the top left corner.

   Slice the right side adhesive

   Reinsert the pick at the bottom and slide it up the right edge to cut the remaining side adhesive. Do not push the pick too deep near the middle right cables.

   Open the display assembly

   Gently swing the display open from the left edge like the cover of a book. Rest it against a solid object so it does not strain the ribbon cables.

   Unscrew the lower display bracket

   Use a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the four screws holding the lower display cable bracket to the logic board.

    Remove the lower display bracket

    Lift the lower display cable bracket out of the case with tweezers and set it aside.

    Disconnect the battery connector

    Use the flat end of a spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket on the logic board.

    Disconnect the lower display cables

    Pry up the display press connector and the touch control press connector straight up from their logic board sockets.

    Unscrew the upper sensor bracket

    Remove the three Tri-point Y000 screws securing the bracket over the front sensor assembly connector.

    Detach the display assembly

    Disconnect the front sensor assembly cable using a spudger, then lift the display assembly completely off the frame.

    Unscrew the Taptic Engine

    Use a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the Taptic Engine and its grounding bracket.

    Remove the Taptic Engine

    Disconnect the Taptic Engine ribbon cable from the logic board and lift the Taptic Engine unit out of the device.

    Unscrew the lower speaker assembly

    Remove the four Phillips #000 screws holding the loudspeaker assembly to the bottom of the rear case.

    Lift out the lower speaker

    Gently lift the loudspeaker out of the phone frame, taking care not to snag the thin antenna interconnect cables.

    Unscrew the microphone and connector assembly

    Remove the five Phillips #000 screws holding the Lightning connector assembly and primary microphone bracket in place.

    Free the primary microphone rubber boot

    Use tweezers to lift the small rubber microphone gasket and metal retaining clip out of the lower right frame port.

    Peel up the microphone and flex assembly

    Insert a flat spudger underneath the primary microphone and flex cable to carefully break the underlying adhesive.

    Remove the old microphone assembly

    Lift the entire lower flex cable containing the main voice microphone and Lightning port out of the rear case.

    Install the new microphone assembly

    Align the replacement microphone into its dedicated recess in the lower frame, then press the flex assembly onto the adhesive tracks.

    Reinstall the speaker and Taptic Engine

    Lower the speaker assembly and Taptic Engine back into position, reattach their press connectors, and tighten all retaining screws.

    Reconnect the display and battery

    Attach the front sensor, display, touch, and battery connectors to the logic board until each firmly clicks into place.

    Reseal and close the frame

    Apply new perimeter adhesive tape around the case edge, align the top lip of the display, and press the glass flat into the frame.

    Reinstall the Pentalobe screws

    Insert and tighten the two P2 Pentalobe screws adjacent to the Lightning port using your P2 screwdriver.
