Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the Side button and either volume button until the slider appears. Slide to turn off your iPhone 8 Plus completely.

Remove Pentalobe screws
2 minUnscrew the two 3.5 mm P2 Pentalobe screws located on either side of the Lightning charging port.

Heat the lower edge
2 minUse a hair dryer or heat gun to gently warm the bottom edge of the display for about 90 seconds to soften the adhesive.

Attach suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower half of the front glass panel, just above the Home button.

Insert opening pick
2 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap at the bottom edge, then insert a plastic opening pick into the gap.

Slice display adhesive
3 minSlide the pick along the bottom, left, and right edges of the phone to cut through the perimeter waterproofing adhesive.

Open the display
1 minSwing the display open from the left side like the cover of a book, propping it upright against a stable object.

Unscrew lower bracket
2 minRemove the four Tri-point Y000 screws securing the lower display connector bracket to the logic board.

Remove lower bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift and remove the metal lower display cable bracket from the phone.

Disconnect the battery
1 minUse the flat edge of a spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket on the logic board.

Disconnect display cables
2 minPry the display cable and touch digitizer cable connectors straight up from their logic board sockets.

Unscrew sensor bracket
2 minRemove the three Tri-point Y000 screws holding the upper front panel sensor assembly bracket.

Remove display assembly
2 minDisconnect the front sensor assembly cable and lift the entire display assembly away from the rear case.

Expose adhesive pull-tabs
3 minUse tweezers to gently peel back the four black adhesive pull-tabs located on the top and bottom edges of the battery.

Pull battery adhesive strips
5 minSlowly pull each stretch-release adhesive strip outward at a flat angle until it slides out entirely from beneath the battery.

Remove the old battery
1 minLift the old battery out of the rear case using a plastic opening tool, taking care not to bend or puncture it.

Install new adhesive strips
3 minAffix new stretch-release adhesive strips onto the back of the replacement battery, removing the protective backing.

Install the new battery
2 minPlace the new battery into the rear case, align it properly, and press down firmly to secure the adhesive.
