Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minEnsure the iPhone 7 is completely powered off and do not connect it to a charger under any circumstances.

Remove the pentalobe screws
2 minUnscrew the two 3.4 mm P2 pentalobe screws located on either side of the Lightning connector.

Attach the suction cup
1 minAttach a suction cup to the lower half of the front display panel, just above the home button.

Slice perimeter adhesive
3 minPull up gently on the suction cup while inserting an opening pick into the seam to cut through the water-resistant adhesive.

Open the display assembly
2 minSwing the display open from the left side like a book, taking care not to strain the delicate ribbon cables along the right side.

Remove the lower bracket
3 minUnscrew the four Tri-point Y000 screws securing the lower display cable bracket to the logic board and remove the bracket.

Disconnect the battery
2 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket to prevent electrical shorts.

Disconnect the display cables
2 minPry the display cable connector and lower display connector straight up off the logic board.

Remove the upper bracket
2 minUnscrew the three Phillips #000 screws holding the front panel sensor assembly bracket and lift it out.

Disconnect front sensor assembly
2 minDisconnect the front panel sensor assembly cable from its socket on the upper logic board.

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or paperclip into the side tray hole to remove the SIM card and tray.

Unscrew the logic board
5 minRemove the remaining Phillips and standoff screws securing the logic board to the rear housing.

Remove the logic board
3 minGently lift the logic board out of the housing, disconnecting any lingering antenna cables underneath.

Inspect for corrosion
5 minExamine the logic board and connector ports under a magnifying glass to locate liquid residue and corrosion.

Clean board with isopropyl alcohol
10 minSubmerge the logic board in high-concentration isopropyl alcohol and gently scrub away corrosion using a soft ESD brush.

Dry the components
15 minAllow the logic board and open housing to air dry completely in a warm, well-ventilated space for at least two hours.

Reinstall the logic board
5 minPlace the dried logic board back into the rear case and secure all fasteners and antenna cables.

Apply display adhesive
4 minClean the old adhesive off the frame edges and lay down a new pre-cut perimeter adhesive strip.

Reconnect display and battery
4 minPlug in the front panel sensor cable, display cables, and finally reconnect the battery terminal before closing.
