Safety

Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the Side button until the power slider appears, then slide to power off the device completely.

Remove bottom pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.4 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning connector.

Heat the bottom edge
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer to the lower edge of the iPhone for about 1 to 2 minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup tool onto the lower half of the front display, just above the Home button.

Create a bottom opening gap
2 minPull up on the suction cup with firm, constant pressure to create a small gap, then insert an opening pick.

Slice perimeter adhesive
3 minSlide the opening pick around the bottom, left, and right edges to cut through the water-resistant adhesive sealant.

Open the display horizontally
1 minCarefully swing the display open to the right side like the cover of a book.

Remove lower display bracket screws
2 minUse a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the lower display cable shield.

Remove the lower cable shield
1 minUse tweezers to remove the metal shield covering the display and battery cable connectors.

Disconnect the battery connector
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket on the logic board.

Remove Taptic Engine bracket screws
2 minUse a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the metal bracket over the Taptic Engine connector.

Remove the connector bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift the small metal bracket off the Taptic Engine ribbon cable.

Disconnect the Taptic Engine cable
1 minPry the Taptic Engine ribbon connector straight up off the logic board using the point of a spudger.

Remove Taptic Engine mounting screws
2 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the three screws securing the Taptic Engine module to the rear case.

Lift out the Taptic Engine
1 minGrasp the Taptic Engine with tweezers and lift it straight out of the rear enclosure.
