Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the sleep/wake button, then slide the on-screen slider to completely turn off the device.

Remove the pentalobe bottom screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe driver to remove the two 3.4 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning connector.

Heat the display perimeter
2 minApply mild heat with a heat gun to the lower edge and sides of the phone for roughly one minute to soften the perimeter adhesive.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower left corner of the screen, just above the Home button assembly.

Slice through the display adhesive
3 minPull up gently on the suction cup to create a small gap, then slide a plastic opening pick around the bottom and sides.

Open the display panel
1 minSwing the screen open to the right side like a book, taking care not to strain the ribbon cables attached to the right edge.

Remove the battery cable bracket
2 minUse a Y000 Tri-point screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the lower display cable bracket.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minPry the battery connector straight up from its logic board socket using the flat edge of a plastic spudger.

Remove the Taptic Engine bracket screws
2 minRemove the three Y000 tri-point screws holding down the metal bracket over the Taptic Engine flex connector.

Disconnect and lift out the Taptic Engine
2 minDisconnect the Taptic Engine flex cable with a spudger, then lift the Taptic Engine unit out of the lower chassis.

Unscrew the loudspeaker assembly
2 minRemove the three Phillips #000 screws and one Y000 screw securing the speaker assembly to the chassis.

Remove the old loudspeaker
1 minGently lift the loudspeaker assembly up and out from the bottom corner of the rear case.

Install the replacement loudspeaker
2 minPosition the new loudspeaker in the lower corner and reinstall the four mounting screws tightly.

Reinstall the Taptic Engine
3 minPlace the Taptic Engine back into the chassis, reattach its flex cable, and secure the metal bracket.
