Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the Side button until the slider appears, then slide to turn off the phone completely.

Remove pentalobe bottom screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe driver to remove the two 3.4 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

Warm the lower display edge
2 minApply heat from a heat gun or hair dryer to the bottom edge for 60 seconds to soften the screen adhesive.

Attach suction cup and lift display
2 minPlace a suction cup on the lower portion of the screen and pull up firmly to create a small gap.

Slice perimeter adhesive
3 minInsert an opening pick into the gap and slide it along the bottom and side edges to cut the waterproof adhesive seal.

Open display to the right
1 minGently swing the display open from the left edge like a book cover, taking care not to strain top cables.

Remove display cable bracket screws
2 minUse a Tri-point Y000 driver to remove the four screws securing the lower display cable bracket.

Disconnect the battery cable
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket on the logic board.

Disconnect display ribbon cables
2 minPry up the display cable and digitizer cable connectors from the logic board using a spudger.

Unscrew top sensor bracket
2 minRemove the two Tri-point Y000 screws holding the bracket over the sensor connector near the top of the phone.

Disconnect upper sensor assembly
2 minDisconnect the front sensor cable connector, then separate the display assembly completely from the rear case.

Remove home button bracket screws
2 minUse a Tri-point Y000 driver to remove the four screws securing the Home button bracket to the display.

Lift off home button bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift the metal Home button bracket off the back of the display assembly.

Disconnect home button ribbon connector
1 minPry the Home button ribbon connector up from its socket on the display cable assembly using a spudger.

Remove home button assembly
2 minGently peel the underlying ribbon cable off the display glass and push the Home button out through the front of the screen.
