Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the Power button, then slide the screen toggle to turn off the phone completely.

Remove the bottom Pentalobe screws
2 minUnscrew the two 3.4 mm Pentalobe screws on either side of the Lightning charging port.

Warm the lower edge
2 minApply heat from a heat gun or hair dryer to the lower edge of the phone for 1 minute to soften the adhesive.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the lower portion of the screen display, just above the Home button.

Pry open the display
3 minPull up gently on the suction cup while inserting a plastic spudger into the seam to release the bottom clips.

Slice the edge adhesive
2 minSlide a plastic opening pick along the left and right edges to cut through the remaining water resistance seal.

Remove the battery bracket screws
2 minUnscrew the two Phillips screws securing the battery connector bracket to the logic board.

Disconnect the battery
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket.

Remove the display cable bracket
2 minUnscrew the four Phillips screws holding the upper display cable bracket and lift the bracket out.

Disconnect the display cables
3 minDisconnect the front camera, digitizer, and LCD flex cables from the logic board using a spudger.

Separate the display assembly
1 minLift the entire screen assembly free from the rear case and place it carefully on a clean surface.

Eject the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool into the hole on the side of the device to pop out and remove the SIM tray.

Disconnect the rear camera assembly
3 minUnscrew the two bracket screws, lift off the rear camera shield, and disconnect the camera press connector.

Disconnect upper logic board flex cables
3 minPry up the power/volume button flex cable, Wi-Fi antenna cable, and audio control connectors near the top.

Disconnect lower logic board cables
2 minPry up the Lightning port flex connector and the lower antenna cable at the bottom of the logic board.

Remove the logic board mounting screws
3 minUnscrew all Phillips and standoff screws holding the logic board down to the rear case.

Remove the logic board
2 minGently pivot the logic board up from the bottom end and pull it clear of the rear housing.
