Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the power button until the slider appears. Slide to power down the device completely before proceeding.

Remove bottom pentalobe screws
2 minUnscrew the two 3.4 mm P2 Pentalobe screws located on either side of the Lightning connector port.

Attach suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the lower half of the glass screen, positioning it just above the Home button.

Pry open the lower edge
2 minPull up firmly on the suction cup to create a small gap, then insert a plastic prying tool into the seam.

Slice left side adhesive
2 minSlide the plastic tool along the left edge of the phone to cut through the water resistance adhesive and release the clips.

Slice right side adhesive
2 minSlide the plastic tool along the right edge to slice the remaining perimeter adhesive.

Open the display assembly
2 minGently swing the display open from the bottom edge up to a 90-degree angle. Prop it upright against a stable object.

Unscrew battery bracket
2 minRemove the two Phillips #00 screws securing the metal battery connector bracket to the logic board.

Remove battery bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift and remove the metal battery connector bracket from the phone.

Disconnect the battery
1 minPry the battery connector straight up from its socket on the logic board using the flat end of a spudger.

Unscrew display bracket
2 minRemove the four Phillips #00 screws holding the display cable bracket near the top right of the logic board.

Disconnect display cables
3 minUse a spudger to carefully disconnect the front camera, digitizer, and LCD cables from their sockets.

Separate display assembly
1 minLift the entire display assembly away from the rear case and set it aside safely.

Unstick battery pull tabs
2 minUse tweezers to peel back the two black adhesive pull tabs located on the bottom edge of the battery.

Pull adhesive strips out
4 minSlowly pull each adhesive tab straight out toward the bottom at a flat angle until the full strips release.

Remove old battery
2 minLift the old battery out of the frame. If stuck, apply a few drops of isopropyl alcohol around the edges to soften remaining adhesive.

Install new battery
3 minApply new adhesive strips to the replacement battery, press it into place inside the rear case, and reassemble the phone.
