Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the Sleep/Wake button, then slide the screen toggle to power off the device completely.

Remove the Pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.6 mm screws on either side of the Lightning port.

Apply the suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup onto the front glass panel just above the home button.

Pry open the front display panel
3 minGently pull up on the suction cup while prying the rear case down with a plastic opening tool to create a small gap.

Remove the battery bracket screws
2 minUnscrew the two Phillips #00 screws securing the metal battery connector bracket to the logic board.

Disconnect the battery cable
2 minRemove the metal bracket and use a plastic spudger to pop the battery connector straight up out of its socket.

Remove the display bracket screws
3 minRemove the five Phillips #00 screws securing the front panel cable bracket to the top of the logic board.

Disconnect the front display assembly
3 minLift away the metal display bracket and use the plastic opening tool to disconnect the display flex cables from the logic board.

Remove the speaker retaining screws
2 minRemove the two Phillips #00 screws holding the loudspeaker assembly to the lower corner of the rear case.

Pry up the loudspeaker
2 minInsert the edge of a plastic opening tool beneath the top edge of the speaker module and lift it out of the rear case.

Position the new loudspeaker
2 minLower the replacement loudspeaker module into the lower corner of the rear case, aligning it with the screw posts.

Secure the new loudspeaker
2 minReplace and tighten the two Phillips #00 screws to fasten the loudspeaker assembly in place.

Reconnect display and battery cables
3 minReattach the display cables and the battery connector, pressing down gently until each snaps into place.

Reattach brackets and close display
4 minReinstall the cable brackets with their screws, lower the display assembly, and press it firmly into the frame.

Reinstall the Pentalobe screws
2 minScrew the two 3.6 mm Pentalobe screws back into place on either side of the Lightning charging port.
