Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the slider appears. Slide to turn the device off completely before starting.

Remove the pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.6 mm screws located at the bottom edge of the phone.

Attach the suction cup
1 minPlace a suction cup onto the lower portion of the screen, just above the Home button.

Pry open the display
3 minGently pull up on the suction cup while pushing down on the rear case with a plastic prying tool to release the clips.

Remove display bracket screws
3 minRemove the five Phillips #000 screws securing the display cable bracket to the main logic board.

Remove the display bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift and remove the metal display cable bracket from the phone.

Disconnect the display cables
3 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pop off the front camera, digitizer, and LCD flex cables from their sockets.

Separate the display assembly
1 minLift the display assembly away from the rear enclosure and lay it flat on your workspace.

Remove home button bracket screws
2 minRemove the two Phillips #000 screws holding the metal home button bracket in place.

Lift off the home button bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift and set aside the home button retention bracket.

Warm the home button adhesive
2 minApply gentle heat from a heat gun or hair dryer to the front lower edge of the screen to soften the button adhesive.

Detach the home button flex cable
2 minGently slide the tip of a spudger beneath the home button ribbon cable to separate it from the display panel.

Push out the home button assembly
2 minPress gently on the top right corner of the home button from the front side until it releases from the display frame.

Install the new home button
2 minAlign and insert the replacement home button assembly into the display panel from the rear side.
