Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the Power button until the slide to power off prompt appears, then swipe to shut down completely.

Remove the Pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.9 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

Attach a suction cup
1 minPress a small suction cup onto the glass screen directly above the Home button assembly.

Pry open the lower display
3 minPull up firmly on the suction cup to create a small gap between the display assembly and the rear case, then insert an opening pick into the seam.

Unlatch the Touch ID bracket
2 minGently lift the display only an inch and use tweezers to remove the metal bracket covering the Touch ID cable connector.

Disconnect the Touch ID cable
2 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the Touch ID cable connector up out of its socket.

Open the display to 90 degrees
1 minOpen the front panel up to a 90-degree angle relative to the rear case and support it against a stable surface.

Remove the battery connector bracket screws
2 minRemove the two Phillips #000 screws securing the metal battery connector bracket to the logic board.

Disconnect the battery
2 minLift the battery connector bracket off and use a spudger to disconnect the battery press connector.

Remove the display cable bracket screws
3 minRemove the four Phillips #000 screws securing the upper display cable bracket to the logic board.

Remove the display cable bracket
1 minLift and remove the metal bracket covering the display cables.

Disconnect the display cables
3 minDisconnect the front camera, digitizer, and LCD cables from their sockets on the logic board using a plastic spudger.

Separate the display assembly
1 minLift the display assembly completely off the rear case and set it aside in a safe location.

Remove the vibrator bracket screws
2 minRemove the two Phillips #000 screws securing the vibrator motor bracket to the upper right corner of the rear case.

Remove the vibrator bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift the metal vibrator motor bracket out of the device.

Remove the old vibrator motor
2 minGently pry up and remove the vibrator motor from its recess in the top right corner of the phone.
