Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the slider appears, then slide to power off the phone completely.

Remove pentalobe screws
2 minUnscrew the two 3.9 mm P2 Pentalobe screws located on either side of the Lightning charging port.

Attach suction cup
1 minPress a suction cup onto the screen assembly directly above the Home button to create a firm seal.

Pry open lower screen
3 minGently pull up on the suction cup while holding the rear case down with a plastic opening tool to create a slight gap.

Detach Touch ID bracket
2 minUse precision tweezers to unclip and remove the small metal bracket covering the Touch ID flex cable.

Disconnect Touch ID cable
2 minPry the Touch ID flex cable straight up out of its socket using the flat end of a spudger.

Unscrew display bracket
3 minRemove the four Phillips #000 screws securing the metal display cable bracket to the logic board.

Remove display bracket
1 minLift the metal display cable bracket off the logic board and set it aside.

Disconnect display cables
3 minUse a spudger to disconnect the front camera, digitizer, and LCD cables from their sockets on the logic board.

Separate display assembly
1 minLift the display assembly completely away from the rear enclosure.

Disconnect battery cable
3 minRemove the two screws securing the battery connector bracket, remove the bracket, and pop off the battery flex cable.

Disconnect lower flex connector
2 minPry the Lightning cable connector straight up off its socket near the bottom of the logic board.

Remove loudspeaker screws
4 minRemove the seven Phillips #000 screws securing the loudspeaker and lower cable assembly to the aluminum frame.

Remove loudspeaker module
2 minCarefully pry up and remove the loudspeaker module from the bottom edge of the case.

Peel up microphone flex assembly
4 minUse a spudger to gently loosen the adhesive securing the microphone, headphone jack, and Lightning assembly, then lift it out.

Install new microphone assembly
5 minAlign the replacement flex assembly into the housing, press down the microphone capsule, and reassemble in reverse order.
