Step-by-step

Power off the device
1 minPress and hold the sleep/wake button until the slider appears, then slide to turn off the iPhone completely.

Remove the bottom Pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.8 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning port.

Attach suction cup to screen
1 minPress a suction cup firmly onto the screen just above the home button to create a secure seal.

Pry open the lower display edge
3 minGently pull up on the suction cup while pressing down on the rear case with a plastic prying tool to pop the bottom clips free.

Open display to a 90-degree angle
2 minHinge the screen open carefully from the bottom, stopping at 90 degrees to avoid straining the top ribbon cables.

Remove the front panel cable bracket screws
2 minUse a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the four screws holding down the metal EMI cable bracket.

Lift out the cable bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift the front panel cable shield out of the phone and set it aside.

Disconnect the front-facing camera cable
2 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the front camera and sensor cable straight up from its connector on the logic board.

Disconnect the digitizer cable
2 minPry the digitizer cable connector up off the logic board using a spudger tool.

Disconnect the LCD display cable
2 minPry the LCD display cable off its logic board socket to fully detach the electronic connections.

Separate display assembly from rear casing
1 minLift the entire display panel off the rear case assembly and place it face down on a clean workspace.

Remove home button bracket screws
2 minRemove the two Phillips #000 screws securing the home button metal bracket to the screen assembly.

Remove the home button bracket
1 minUse tweezers to lift and remove the metal bracket covering the home button assembly.

Detach and remove home button assembly
3 minGently pry the home button cable contact off the display frame and push the button gasket out through the front glass.

Remove earpiece speaker bracket screws
2 minUnscrew the two Phillips #000 screws holding the earpiece speaker retainer bracket in place.

Remove earpiece bracket and speaker
2 minLift off the metal bracket, then pick out the earpiece speaker module with tweezers.

Pry up front camera and sensor cable
3 minUse a spudger to carefully loosen the glued front camera, sensor array, and microphone contacts from the upper frame.

Remove LCD side shield screws
3 minUnscrew the four Phillips #000 screws along the left and right sides of the metal LCD heat shield.

Transfer LCD shield to new screen
2 minLift the LCD metal shield plate off the old screen and position it onto the replacement display assembly.

Secure side shield screws
2 minFasten the four side screws to lock the heat shield into place on the new display frame.

Reinstall camera cable and earpiece speaker
4 minAlign the sensor assembly into its recessed notch, place the speaker over it, and reattach the bracket with screws.

Install home button into new display
3 minInsert the home button into the front, lay the flex cable flat, and secure the metal bracket with its screws.

Reconnect display flex cables
3 minAlign and press down the LCD, digitizer, and camera cable connectors onto the logic board until they snap firmly.

Reinstall EMI cable shield
2 minPosition the display cable metal bracket over the connectors and tighten its four Phillips screws.

Close display and reattach Pentalobe screws
3 minAlign the top top tabs first, lower the screen into the body, press the edges shut, and reinstall the two bottom P2 screws.
