Safety
- Wear an anti-static ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface to prevent ESD damage.
- Disconnect the battery before touching board components to avoid electrical shorts.
- Operate soldering equipment in a well-ventilated area and wear eye protection.
Overview
Step-by-step

Power Off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the top sleep/wake button until the power slider appears, then slide to turn off the phone entirely.

Remove Pentalobe Screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 3.8 mm screws located on either side of the Lightning connector.

Apply Suction Cup
1 minPlace a suction cup on the glass assembly just above the Home button and press firmly to secure suction.

Separate Display Assembly
3 minPull up on the suction cup while inserting a plastic opening tool into the seam to pop the display clips free from the plastic casing.

Remove Battery Bracket Screws
2 minUnscrew the two Phillips #000 screws holding the metal battery connector bracket near the bottom right of the board.

Disconnect the Battery
1 minUse the flat edge of a plastic spudger to pry the battery connector straight up off the logic board socket.

Remove Display Cable Shield
2 minRemove the four Phillips screws securing the metal cable bracket at the top right corner of the device.

Disconnect Display Cables
3 minDisconnect the front camera, digitizer, and LCD display cables from the logic board using a spudger.

Detach Display Assembly
1 minLift the entire front display assembly clear of the rear case and set it aside in a safe location.

Disconnect Dock Connector Cable
2 minPry up the lower ribbon cable connector that attaches the Lightning assembly to the bottom of the logic board.

Disconnect Cellular Antenna
2 minUse precision tweezers to gently lift the coaxial antenna cable head off its terminal on the lower board.

Remove Rear Camera Bracket
3 minUnscrew the bracket covering the rear camera module and pop the camera press connector off the logic board.

Eject the SIM Tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or thin paperclip into the pinhole on the side of the iPhone to pop out the tray.

Unscrew Logic Board Screws
4 minRemove the top standoff screw and remaining Phillips screws securing the logic board perimeter to the case.

Remove the Logic Board
2 minPivot the logic board up from the bottom edge and lift it out, being careful not to snag any remaining ribbon cables.

Inspect and Repair Components
15 minExamine damaged components under magnification, using flux and a fine-tip soldering iron or desoldering braid to reflow or swap bad chips.
