Step-by-step

Power Down iPhone
1 minPress and hold the sleep/wake button on top of the phone, then slide the screen toggle to power off completely.

Remove Pentalobe Screws
2 minUnscrew the two 3.6 mm P2 Pentalobe screws located on either side of the Lightning charging port.

Lift Front Panel
3 minAttach a suction cup above the home button and gently pull upward while prying the bottom glass frame with a plastic tool.

Remove Display Cable Bracket
2 minUnscrew the three Phillips screws securing the metal display cable bracket to the top right of the logic board and lift it out.

Disconnect Display Cables
3 minUse a plastic spudger to pry up the front camera, digitizer, and LCD connector cables from their board sockets.

Disconnect Battery Cable
2 minRemove the two Phillips screws securing the battery connector bracket, then pop the battery connector off the logic board.

Eject SIM Card Tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or paperclip into the hole on the right side of the device to pop out and remove the SIM tray.

Disconnect Dock Flex Cables
3 minDisconnect the lower dock connector flex cable, volume button flex, and antenna coaxial cable from the lower portion of the logic board.

Remove Rear Camera
3 minUnscrew the camera grounding bracket, disconnect the rear camera flex cable, and lift the camera module out of the housing.

Remove Logic Board Screws
4 minUnscrew the five internal logic board mounting screws, taking note of the top standoff screw near the headphone jack area.

Lift Logic Board Out
3 minCarefully tilt the top of the logic board up and lift it away from the rear case, making sure no loose cables get caught.

Apply Liquid Flux
2 minPlace the board under a magnifying lamp and apply a small drop of liquid flux directly to the damaged solder joint or trace.

Resolder Board Component
8 minTouch the preheated fine-tip soldering iron to the joint to reflow or solder the damaged component in place.

Clean Logic Board
3 minDampen a lint-free swab with 99% isopropyl alcohol and gently clean away any remaining flux residue from the board.
