Step-by-step

Remove the bottom dock screws
2 minUnscrew the two 3.6 mm Pentalobe screws located on either side of the 30-pin dock connector at the bottom of the phone.

Slide off the rear panel
1 minPush the rear glass panel upward about 2 mm to release its clips, then lift it away from the chassis.

Disconnect the battery bracket
2 minRemove the single 1.7 mm Phillips screw securing the battery connector bracket, then lift the metal grounding clip out with tweezers.

Pry up the battery connector
1 minUse a plastic spudger to gently pry the battery connector straight up off the logic board.

Remove the battery
3 minPull the clear plastic pull tab upward to break the adhesive beneath the battery and remove it from the phone.

Eject the SIM card tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or straightened paperclip into the SIM tray hole and push firmly to eject the tray.

Remove the top EMI shield
3 minUnscrew the five Phillips screws holding the top logic board EMI shield in place and lift the shield off the board.

Disconnect the rear camera
2 minPry the rear camera cable connector up from its socket on the logic board and lift the camera module out.

Disconnect the upper logic board cables
3 minUse the flat end of a spudger to disconnect the audio jack, digitizer, display LCD, and power switch flex cables from the logic board.

Unscrew the logic board fasteners
4 minRemove the remaining logic board screws, including the standoff screw located near the top center of the chassis.

Remove the logic board
3 minCarefully pivot the logic board out from the bottom edge and lift it completely out of the frame.

Unscrew the power button bracket
2 minRemove the two Phillips screws securing the top power button metal bracket to the internal frame.

Remove the faulty power button cable
3 minUse tweezers to peel the power/volume flex cable away from the inner wall of the chassis and lift out the power button switch.

Install the new power button flex cable
4 minAlign the replacement power button switch in the top housing, adhere the flex cable to the chassis, and tighten the metal bracket screws.
