Step-by-step

Power Off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the top power button until the slider appears, then slide to turn off the iPhone completely.

Remove the Lower Screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe or Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove the two 3.6 mm screws located at the bottom edge of the phone.

Slide Off the Rear Panel
1 minPush the rear glass panel upward toward the top edge of the phone to unlatch it, then lift it away.

Unscrew the Battery Connector Bracket
2 minRemove the two Phillips #000 screws securing the battery connector bracket to the logic board.

Disconnect the Battery Connector
2 minUse a plastic spudger to gently pry the battery connector straight up from its socket on the logic board.

Remove the Battery
3 minPull the clear plastic tab upward to release the battery from the adhesive securing it to the frame.

Unscrew the Cable Shield
2 minRemove the two Phillips #000 screws holding the metal dock connector cable cover near the bottom of the logic board.

Remove the Cable Shield
1 minUse tweezers to carefully lift the metal cover off the dock cable connection point.

Disconnect the Dock Connector Flex Cable
2 minPry the dock connector flex cable press connector straight up off the logic board using a spudger.

Unscrew the Speaker Enclosure
2 minRemove the two Phillips #000 screws securing the lower speaker enclosure to the aluminum casing.

Remove the Speaker Enclosure
2 minLift the speaker assembly out of the bottom cavity of the device.

Free the Primary Microphone
3 minUse a spudger to pry the small rubber microphone boot and microphone head from its recess in the lower rim.

Remove the Dock Connector Assembly
3 minGently peel the flexible dock cable and attached lower microphone away from the rear enclosure.

Install the New Microphone Assembly
4 minPress the new microphone and dock connector flex cable firmly into place along the lower edge of the case.
