Step-by-step

Eject the SIM tray
1 minInsert a SIM eject tool or bent paperclip into the hole beside the SIM tray and press firmly to pop it out.

Remove lower dock screws
2 minUnscrew the two 3.6 mm Phillips #00 screws located on the bottom edge near the dock connector.

Slide off the rear panel
1 minPush the rear glass panel upward approximately 2 mm toward the top edge, then lift it away from the phone.

Unscrew the battery connector
2 minRemove the single 2.5 mm Phillips #00 screw securing the battery connector bracket to the logic board.

Disconnect the battery
1 minUse a plastic opening tool to gently pry the battery connector straight up off its socket.

Remove the battery
2 minPull the clear plastic tab upward to break the adhesive underneath and lift the battery out of the frame.

Uncover the dock connector
2 minRemove the two Phillips screws holding the metal dock cable cover in place and remove the cover.

Disconnect the dock connector cable
1 minPry the dock ribbon cable straight up off its socket on the logic board using a plastic opening tool.

Disconnect the lower antenna
2 minUse tweezers to carefully pop the coaxial antenna connector off the lower corner of the logic board.

Remove the rear camera cover
2 minUnscrew the two Phillips screws securing the camera shield and lift the grounding clip off.

Remove the rear camera
2 minDisconnect the rear camera connector from the board and lift the camera module clear of the housing.

Remove top EMI shield
3 minUnscrew the five Phillips screws holding the top metal grounding shield and lift it out.

Disconnect top ribbon cables
3 minPry up the digitizer, LCD, headphone jack, front camera, and power button connectors from the top edge.

Unscrew logic board standoffs
2 minUse a small flathead screwdriver to remove the standoff screw located near the headphone jack.

Lift logic board out
3 minGently tilt the bottom of the logic board up and lift it free from the phone frame.

Resolder damaged board components
10 minApply liquid flux to cold solder joints or damaged traces under magnification and resolder using a fine-tip soldering iron.
