   Power down the device

   Press and hold the top power button until the slider appears. Slide to power off the iPhone completely before starting disassembly.

   Remove the bottom screws

   Use a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver (or Phillips #00 on earlier revisions) to remove the two 3.6 mm screws next to the dock connector.

   Slide off the rear panel

   Push the rear glass panel upward toward the top edge of the phone until it moves roughly 2 mm. Lift the rear panel away from the chassis.

   Unscrew the battery connector bracket

   Remove the single 2.5 mm Phillips screw securing the battery cable connector to the logic board.

   Disconnect the battery connector

   Use the edge of a spudger to gently pry the battery connector straight up off the logic board. Be careful not to lose the tiny metal grounding clip beneath it.

   Remove the battery

   Pull the clear plastic pull-tab upward to break the adhesive underneath the battery. Lift the battery out of the casing.

   Unscrew the dock cable cover

   Remove the two Phillips screws (one 1.2 mm and one 1.6 mm) holding the dock connector cable shield in place.

   Remove the dock cable cover

   Use tweezers to lift the small metal dock connector shield out of the phone.

   Disconnect the dock connector cable

   Pry the ribbon cable connector straight up from its socket on the logic board using the flat end of a spudger.

    Peel up the dock cable

    Gently peel the flexible dock connector ribbon cable away from the aluminum inner frame.

    Disconnect the cellular antenna cable

    Use a spudger to pop the tiny round coaxial antenna cable off the lower circuit board.

    Unscrew the speaker enclosure

    Remove the two Phillips screws securing the lower speaker/antenna enclosure to the outer metal frame.

    Remove the speaker enclosure

    Lift the plastic speaker enclosure out of the bottom of the phone frame.

    Disconnect the home button cable

    Flip up the tiny retaining flap on the home button ZIF connector using tweezers, then pull the ribbon cable out.

    Unscrew the dock port bracket

    Remove the two screws securing the dock connector port to the bottom rim of the outer frame.

    Remove the old dock connector assembly

    Carefully pry the bottom microphone and charging port assembly free from the adhesive holding it to the frame.

    Install the new dock connector assembly

    Position the new charging port into the bottom opening, ensuring the internal microphone sits flush in its cavity.

    Secure the dock port screws

    Thread and tighten the two mounting screws to lock the replacement charging port to the metal frame.

    Reconnect the home button cable

    Slide the home button ribbon cable back into its ZIF socket and press the locking flap down firmly.

    Reinstall the speaker enclosure

    Place the speaker enclosure into position over the lower edge and replace its two mounting screws.

    Reconnect the antenna and dock cable

    Snap the round antenna connector back into place, then press down the main dock ribbon connector onto the logic board.

    Reinstall the dock cable shield

    Set the metal cover back over the dock ribbon connection and secure it with its two screws.

    Reinstall the battery and grounding clip

    Place the battery back into its well, position the small grounding clip, and press the battery connector into place before tightening its screw.

    Reattach the rear panel

    Align the rear cover slightly offset from the top edge, slide it downward into place, and reinstall the two bottom frame screws.
