Step-by-step

Power Down iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and either volume button, then slide the power icon to turn off the device completely.

Remove Pentalobe Screws
2 minUnscrew the two P2 Pentalobe screws located on either side of the USB-C charging port.

Heat Rear Glass
2 minApply mild heat from a heat gun or hair dryer around the outer edges of the back glass panel for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach Suction Cup
2 minPlace a suction cup onto the lower portion of the rear glass near the bottom edge and lift firmly to create a seam gap.

Insert Opening Pick
2 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the small gap created between the glass and the outer aluminum enclosure.

Slice Perimeter Adhesive
4 minSlide the pick along the bottom, left, and right edges to slice through the adhesive seal while avoiding deep insertion near flex cables.

Open Rear Glass Assembly
2 minGently swing the rear glass open to the right side like a book cover without straining the attached ribbon cables.

Unscrew Connector Bracket
3 minRemove the Tri-point screws securing the metal shield bracket over the battery and glass flex connectors.

Remove Shield Bracket
1 minUse precision tweezers to lift and remove the metal shield bracket from the phone body.

Disconnect Battery Cable
1 minPry the battery press connector straight up off the logic board using the flat edge of a plastic spudger.

Remove Loudspeaker Screws
3 minUnscrew the Phillips and Tri-point screws securing the bottom loudspeaker assembly to the housing.

Remove Loudspeaker Assembly
2 minGently lift the loudspeaker out of the chassis using a spudger to reveal the Taptic Engine beneath it.

Disconnect Taptic Engine Cable
1 minUse the pointed end of a spudger to pry the Taptic Engine ribbon cable connector straight up from its socket.

Unscrew Taptic Engine
3 minRemove the mounting screws anchoring the Taptic Engine to the lower interior of the chassis.

Lift Out Taptic Engine
1 minUse tweezers or your fingers to lift the damaged Taptic Engine out of the device body.
