Step-by-step

Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the power button and volume down button, then slide the screen prompt to shut down the device completely.

Remove bottom pentalobe screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.8 mm screws on the bottom edge near the USB-C port.

Heat the bottom edge
2 minApply a heat gun on low heat to the lower perimeter of the front screen for two minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach suction cup to the display
2 minPlace a suction cup on the lower portion of the screen, just above the bottom bezel, and pull up firmly to create a gap.

Insert an opening pick
3 minInsert a plastic opening pick into the gap and slide it along the lower and side edges to cut through the waterproof adhesive seal.

Open the display like a book
1 minSwing the screen open from the left edge toward the right edge, leaning it against a solid object so the cables are not stressed.

Unbolt the battery connector shield
2 minUse a Tri-point Y000 screwdriver to remove the screws holding down the lower metal battery shield, then remove the cover with tweezers.

Disconnect the battery
1 minPry the battery cable connector straight up off the logic board using the flat end of a plastic spudger.

Remove the display cable shield
2 minUnscrew the Tri-point screws securing the display cable bracket and lift the bracket out of the chassis.

Disconnect the display flex cables
2 minUse a spudger to carefully disconnect the screen display and touch sensor flex cables from the logic board.

Remove upper logic board screws
3 minUnbolt the Phillips and standoff screws securing the top end of the main logic board to the enclosure.

Remove the logic board
3 minGently lift the logic board from the enclosure, making sure no surrounding ribbon cables catch on its edges.

Unscrew the power button bracket
2 minRemove the small Phillips screws holding the internal metal bracket behind the power button cutout.

Remove the power button flex cable
2 minUse fine tweezers to gently peel the damaged power button switch and attached flex cable off the inner frame.

Install the new power button assembly
3 minAlign the replacement power button switch and flex cable into the frame cutout and press the adhesive backing firmly.

Secure the button retaining bracket
2 minPosition the metal retaining bracket over the new power button actuator and reinsert the Phillips screws tightly.
