Step-by-step

Power Off Phone
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button simultaneously, then slide to power off the device completely.

Remove Pentalobe Screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the two 6.8 mm screws located at the bottom edge of the iPhone on either side of the USB-C port.

Heat Display Edge
2 minApply a warm heat gun or hair dryer along the lower perimeter of the display for two minutes to soften the waterproof adhesive.

Apply Suction Cup
1 minPlace a suction handle onto the bottom half of the glass screen, just above the lower edge.

Slice Lower Adhesive
3 minPull up on the suction handle to create a small gap, then insert an opening pick beneath the screen and slide it along the bottom edge.

Open Display Assembly
2 minCarefully swing the display open toward the right side like a book, taking care not to strain the delicate ribbon cables along the right edge.

Remove Logic Board Shield Screws
3 minUse a Tri-Point Y000 screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the lower logic board shield plate.

Disconnect Battery Press Connector
1 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the battery press connector straight up out of its socket to cut power to the device.

Disconnect Display Flex Cable
2 minPry the primary display flex cable connector straight up from its socket on the logic board.

Remove Sensor Assembly Bracket Screws
3 minUnscrew the three Tri-Point Y000 screws holding the upper sensor and TrueDepth camera bracket in place at the top of the chassis.

Disconnect TrueDepth Camera Connectors
2 minCarefully pry up the two ribbon cable connectors for the infrared camera and dot projector assembly.

Remove TrueDepth Face ID Module
2 minGently lift the original TrueDepth sensor module out of its recessed housing using ESD-safe tweezers.

Install Replacement Face ID Sensor
3 minPosition the replacement TrueDepth module into the top housing cutout and press the cable connectors into their board sockets.

Reattach Battery Connector
2 minPress the battery connector firmly back into its socket before reinstalling the metal shield plate and screws.

Seal and Close Display
3 minAlign the top edge of the screen with the frame, lower it gently into position, and press firmly around the edges until it snaps flush.
