Step-by-step
- 1
Power off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and volume down button, then slide to power off completely.

Remove the Pentalobe screws
2 minUnscrew the two 6.8 mm P2 Pentalobe screws located on the bottom edge near the USB-C port.

Heat the back glass edge
3 minApply a heated iOpener or hair dryer to the bottom edge of the back glass for 2 minutes to soften the adhesive.

Attach a suction handle
2 minPlace a suction cup on the lower portion of the back glass and pull up firmly to create a small gap.

Insert an opening pick
2 minInsert the tip of an opening pick into the gap created by the suction cup under the rear glass.

Slice perimeter adhesive
5 minSlide the pick around the edges of the back cover to cut through the waterproof adhesive tape.

Open the back cover
2 minGently swing the back glass open toward the right side like a book cover.

Remove the battery cover screws
3 minUnscrew the Tri-Point Y000 screws holding the lower metal shield over the battery connector.

Disconnect the battery cable
2 minUse a plastic spudger to gently pry the battery press connector straight up from its socket.

Remove Taptic Engine screws
3 minUnscrew the Phillips and standoff screws securing the Taptic Engine assembly to the enclosure.

Disconnect the Taptic Engine connector
2 minPry up the Taptic Engine ribbon cable connector using the flat end of a spudger.

Remove the Taptic Engine
2 minUse precision tweezers to lift the faulty Taptic Engine straight out of the phone chassis.

Install the replacement Taptic Engine
3 minAlign the new Taptic Engine into place and press the ribbon connector firmly into its socket.

Reattach battery and seal glass
8 minReconnect the battery, replace metal brackets, apply new rear adhesive, and press the back glass back on.
