Step-by-step

Power Off the iPhone
1 minPress and hold the side button and either volume button, then slide to power off the device completely.

Remove the Pentalobe Screws
2 minUse a P2 Pentalobe driver to remove the two 6.8 mm screws located on the bottom edge of the phone.

Heat the Lower Edge
2 minApply a heat gun or hair dryer to the bottom edge of the iPhone for two minutes to soften the display adhesive.

Apply a Suction Cup
1 minPlace a suction cup near the bottom edge of the screen, just above the home indicator area.

Pry Open the Display
3 minPull up on the suction cup to create a small gap, then insert an opening pick under the screen.

Slice the Edge Adhesive
4 minSlide the pick around the perimeter of the phone to cut through the waterproof adhesive seal.

Open the Display Assembly
2 minGently swing the display open from the right edge, like opening the cover of a book.

Unscrew the Logic Board Cover
3 minUse a Tri-point screwdriver to remove the screws securing the lower connector bracket.

Disconnect the Battery
2 minUse the flat end of a spudger to pry the battery connector straight up from its socket.

Disconnect the Power Button Flex
3 minLocate the power button flex cable connector on the logic board and gently detach it using tweezers or a spudger.

Unscrew the Power Button Bracket
3 minRemove the small retaining screws holding the internal power button bracket to the frame.

Remove the Damaged Switch Assembly
2 minUse tweezers to lift the metal bracket and extract the power button flex cable from inside the housing.

Install the New Power Button
4 minPosition the replacement power button switch into the housing slot and secure it with the retaining bracket.
